A Boy's Life Cards
Check out these gorgeous cards that Design Team Member Sherrie made using Echo Park's "A Boys' Life" collection. I just love the little pinwheels!! We've included instructions below the picture so you can complete these projects at home!
Supplies Used:
Echo Park – A Boy’s Life Collection
12x12 Patterned Paper
My Mind’s Eye Lost & Found –
Portobello Road “Boy” Stamps
Ranger Stickles – Waterfall
Distress Inks – Faded Jeans, Black
Soot, Rusty Hinge, and Scattered Straw
EK Success Notebook Punch
Black Pen
White, Yellow, Blue, Orange Cardstock
Pop Dots
Card #1:
-Cut out piece of the Rambunctious
paper 4” x 5” and attach to card.
-Cut out piece of orange cardstock 2 ¼”
x 5” and attach to card. (I did mine slightly lower than center)
-Cut out piece of Suave paper 2” x
5”.
-Take cut out piece of Suave paper and
use the EK Success Notebook Punch along one edge.
-Attach Suave paper to card on top of
orange cardstock.
-Take the large flourish stamp from the
Portobello Road “Boy” stamp set and using Black Soot Distress
Ink, stamp onto a piece of white cardstock.
-Cut out stamped image 2 ¾”L x 2
½”H. Distress the edges of the cardstock and ink with Black Soot
ink.
-Apply large pop dots to corners of
white cardstock and attach to card in center towards the top.
-Take your Waterfall Stickles and apply
to dots on flourish image.
-I then took the Waterfall Stickles and
made dots along the upper edge of the Suave paper.
**Be sure to set this aside
somewhere where you won’t bump it so the Stickles have plenty of
time to dry!!
Card #2:
-Cut apart card at fold.
-Take one of the card pieces that you
just cut apart and trim ¼” off the top and ¼” off one side.
-Take the trimmed piece and stamp the
large frame oval flourish onto the center using black soot distress
ink.
-After the ink dries, leaving about a
¼” edge around stamp, cut out the image.
-Center cutout onto other half of card
that was not trimmed down and adhere.
-Taking scrap pieces of the patterned
paper, attach them to the trimmed down piece of card that had the
oval cut out of it. Be sure to trim the patterned pieces down so they
do not overlap or hang over into the oval cut out.
-Apply large pot dots to the corners of
the trimmed down piece of card and center it onto the other piece of
card and adhere.
Card #3:
-Cut three pieces of patterned paper,
two will be 4 ½”L x 1 3/8”W and one will be 4 7/8”L x 1 3/8”W.
-At one end of all three pieces of
patterned paper cut out a triangle shape.
-Take a black pen and draw stitch marks
around the edge of all three pieces of patterned paper.
-Randomly attach all three pieces of
patterned paper to your card, in whatever order you like.
-Cut a strip of the Rambunctious paper
1”H x 6”L.
-Determine where on card you want to
attach strip of Rambunctious paper and apply a strip of super
strength adhesive across area. I used the red sticky tape.
-Attach strip of Rambunctious paper to
one edge of card, leaving a small amount hanging over the edge, and
every inch you will pleat the strip. Continue this pleating across
the card. You should end up with five pleats.
Card #4:
-Cut three strips of cardstock, one
each of yellow, blue, and orange, 1 3/8”H x 5”L and attach in any
order to the card.
-To make the pinwheels:
-Take three
different pieces of the patterned paper and cut a 2” x 2” square
out of them all.
-At each corner cut
in 7/8” towards the center.
-Apply super sticky
adhesive to the center of each 2” x 2” square. I used the red
sticky tape.
-Take one point and
fold in to the center, pressing it down firmly onto the adhesive.
-Go to the next
side of the square and take that point and fold it to the center,
pressing it down firmly onto the adhesive.
-You will continue
this for the other two sides of the square. Repeat these steps on the
other two 2” x 2” squares.
-Pick one of the small stamps from the
Portobello Road “Boy” set and using Faded Jeans, Rusty Hinge, and
Scattered Straw Distress Inks (matched the solid cardstock I used on
the background) stamp the image once in all three colors onto white
cardstock.
-Cut out the stamped image and attach a
small pop dot to the back and apply to the center of the pinwheel to
cover the folded in points.
-Cut 3 strips of white cardstock to
make sticks/stems for the pinwheels and attach to card.
-Take the airplane stamp from the
Portobello Road “Boy” set and using Black Soot Distress Ink,
stamp the image onto the card.
Happy Scrappin!

A sign....
Been messing around with Distress Stains a lot lately...Really love how they work on wood....It's nice to be able to get a great background color on the wood without having to break out the acrylic paints....And the best thing: it takes one coat....no sanding or sealing of the wood necessary!
Here is my latest result of dabbling with Distress Stains:
This wooden sign was based with Walnut Stain Distress Stain. I used the Fanciful Flight die to make the butterfly. The butterfly's top layer was made with grungepaper and the bottom layer was cut from a manilla tag. The bottom layer was inked with Distress Inks in various colors and assembled with the top layer. Then I filled in all of the 'wing spaces' with Rock Candy Distress Stickles. This gives the wings an almost transparent effect.
I really love the new Word Bands from Tim Holtz Idea-ology line. This Word Band was rubbed with Pearl Paint Dabbers to make the letters stand out. The Word Band was adhered to the sign using Matte Medium and hemp twine. This twine has been my go-to embellishment lately. I love it because it matches just about anything. I love this twine so much that I decided to order it in black last week... LOL
Look for a class coming in May featuring the Distress Stains. We have a few colors available at the store at the moment, but more will be trickling in in the next couple of months. Stay tuned to the newsletter in the next few weeks for more class announcements.
Don't forget it's Double Punch week this week at the store. Spend $10 and get two punches on your Scrap Saver card! Woohoo!!
Happy Inking!!
